New Albums to Buy

I recently went shopping for some new albums to buy and I picked up the new Kanye album, as well as T.I. and Nicki Minaj's debut album. each album was worth buying. I could play each CD without skipping songs. Kanye's album is a little bit off but in a good way. I don't take him seriously as a singer, but he is different from other artists.
T.I.'s album is probably my favorite. Even though he's in jail his album should still do well. He is always putting out hits and this album is perfect for a long car ride on the way to a party. I grew up listening to him and I think this is probably his best album to date.
Nicki's album is probably the most popular. she has a lot of artists that featured on her album and a lot of songs that can relate to both females and males. Her tracks on her album switch up from singing to rap and everything in between. No song is going to sound the same when you listen to it. I suggest getting all three albums and you will be a very happy camper.

L.O.V.E.- POEM

Hey, so this week I am going to do something different from fashion and music and I am going to post a poem that I wrote. I have been writing poetry for a while now and I do it as a hobby. I usually write about random things that don't have anything to do with my life, but i enjoy it. This poem I'm posting is about love and how it is perceived by people.  I've never been in love and I don't really believe in being in love. I believe being "in love" is figment of the imagination that makes people feel better about themselves as individuals. But maybe I don't believe in love because I've never been in love....but who cares anyway here is my poem it's titled L.O.V.E. enjoy.

Should we leave it or let it die only god knows when we are telling lies. Trying to deceive what we wish we could believe but when its all said and done we wish it had never begun.  Because its too hard to make it our hearts can barely take it but if we are lucky enough to make it our hearts will surely be graced with. Love. That’s all anyone ever wants. That’s all we ever need we’ll be straight that’s guaranteed if we need it we want it and if we want it we don’t need it but once we need it then we grab it n never let it go nor deceive it. It’s too precious to be played with n too heavy to be taken lightly. Once it’s gone its lost forever. Lost in incantation but found in imagination. Its what unites ones nation and it is celebrated on occasion. It can be your best friend at times and it can be your worst enemy. It can be the definition of two or more’s chemistry. 4 letters reigning over all. Its what picks us up when we fall. Chilled by the thought of desire inflamed by which we are blind to see love is nothing more than 4 letters; L.O.V.E.

Continued....

Ok so my teacher told me my post has to be longer so this is a follow up on  my previous post.  so I've been thinking I am a perfect example of Campbell's theory. I recently received the call to come to Atlanta for Thanksgiving and have a good time. I skipped the rejecting part and quickly accepted this call...WHO WOULDN'T? it a couple hours I will be setting out on my adventure from Saratoga Springs to Atlanta..woo woo! There is a risk of danger that may burden my inevitable goal. What if my flights gets delayed and I can't go home. on the way to the airport the tires on the car could bust and I would be late to my flight. so many things can happen that cold ruin my journey. ..but this is the risk I have to take to make it home and have a great time. My guides will be the taxi driver/pilot/and my friend who is picking me up from the airport. All of these people are imperative to my goal. once I get there I would be bombarded with a plethora of distractions but I will overcome them to reach my goal and have a good time. Once I am all partied out I will be a better person inside and I will return to Saratoga Spring a happier Malcolm. :)

See, creative thought does matter I just put myself in the shoes of a "hero" Campbell helped me understand this concept. Now I feel like I can write my own story that follows this pattern and it will sale millions of dollars.  Campbell made it easier for me to understand how stories are created and how many stories are alike in ways other than what actually takes place. BOOOOOYAAAAHHHH

Campbell's mmm mmm good

My first semester english class is almost over about blogging, and I can truly say I have learned a lot from it. we have talked a lot about different philosophers and their different theories of life and people. Some philosophers I learned about were easier than others to understand and some I could relate to more than others. One of the most interesting people I learned about was Joseph Campbell. he came up with the mono-myth theory. his theory was that most myths, stories, and religions share the same types of images and archetypes that represent the hero’s journey, which is the desire of the everyman, or woman to achieve individualization or wholeness of the psyche.  according to this guy, every hero must go through a series of test to achieve their wholeness of the psyche. these steps are:
1.     Call
       2.     Rejection
   3.     Acceptance
 4.     Setting out
5.     Danger
6.     Guides/potions
7.     Overcoming
8.     Reaching mystery
9.     Return

As soon as I learned this I immediately researched all the hero movies I could think of and after looking at them they all followed that same sequence in a way. not every hero rejects their calling but there is always a call. A prime example of this would be the matrix movies. We talked about this is class where Neo gets the call then rejects it by trying to run away and the seen where he takes the blue pill represents acceptance. If you look into some of your favorite movies you will see the same patterns. learning all of this kind of disappointed me in a way. I'm a big fan of movies and it now seems like nothing that comes it is a creative movie anymore. the plot is ruined for me now because I can pretty much guess what's going to happen and when it's going to happen. Its more interesting though, to learn about somebody like Campbell, who was so knowledgable about the myths and the psyche. At the same time its a very random subject to get into, why would someone want to sped their time on lecturing about a subject like this. I know I wouldn't, but that's just me. To end on a positive note I just saved a lot of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico!

I'm Ready!

Ok, so the first break of school is almost here and I'm excited! Thanksgiving is almost here and I can go to aAtlanta and eat some real food, go to real parties, and actually have real fun! I've been sick and tired of Skidmore College and for some reason, teachers feel like it necessary to give me papers that are due the last week of class. I feel like they just need to leave me alone and let e enjoy my break. I can do work when I get back. I don't believe in doing work away from school especially on break. SMH I can't wait to transfer USC here I come! I have a plane ticket home but I don't really know how to get to the airport. I'm in Saratoga and the airport is in Albany. This town is too small to have an airport so they make people go to another city just to leave. I'm ready to see my family and friends. I tired of cold weather and I'm tire of the craziness here. I will be able to sleep in, wake up when I want to, go to bed when I want to, and I can go through out a whole day without doing homework....YESSSSSSS. IM READY!

Prospy Day

Today during class we had some prospective students visit and sit in our class. I was excited to meet them and get to know them. They also were able to participate in class discussion. There were about 15 students that came from new york and they were kinda shy at first.
The first weird thing they did was  sit all together by the door against the wall. the seats were situated in an outer and inner circle and all of the students immediately moved to the the outer circle! It was hilarious I feel like they were scared for no reason.
When we first started discussion about why we have blogs and blog identity only a few of the students wanted to participate. We brought cookies for them and everything. they eventually opened up and were fully participating in the class and seemed really interested in the class. it was an overall pretty good experience for them to see how a college class was. Some of the kids were really intelligent and I could relate with some of them. They remind me of myself when I was a senior. But that's another story for another time!

Howard University Homecoming

So I just got back from D.C. the other and i had a blast. Howard's homecoming was amazing. there was so much to do it was overwhelming. Skidmore bores me so much it felt good to actually have fun for once. from the moment i got off the plane i was having fun and doing different activities. as soon as I got there my friend and I hit up a party at a club and it was so crowded the line stretched around the street. I met so many beautiful women I was in heaven. We didn't have to wait in line because my friend was apart of the party promoters throwing the party. It wasn't even that cold, it was maybe 50 degrees at night. unlike Saratoga springs where its 50 below zero. The second I went t the actual Homecoming game where the actor, Tyrese, was the homecoming court marshal. other celebrities stopped by too like AJ from 106 and Park.  after the game I went to the step show which was my favorite part of the trip. Step Teams from across the U.S. performed and J.cole, the rapper, performed afterwards. That same night me and friends partied in the dorms as well as the club. I don't really remember falling asleep that night there was just so much to do. Overall it was a life changing experience I will be definitely going back next year.

IM TIRED!

Ok, so I thought I take some time to explain to you, some situations I have been going through. Im at Skidmore college this is my first year and everything is so different. these classes are cool but it hard getting used to the new environment. I feel like this weather is killing me! I live in Atlanta where its hot till november....WHY IS IT 40 DEGREES IN OCTOBER! this is ridiculous  now this week it like 70.....what is going on around here! I have come to the conclusion that I hate Saratoga Springs, its too much for me. Im trying to transfer to USC in sunny california to study film and screen writing and at Skidmore, The only major I could possibly study is business, which is nice but it's not really what I want to do. now I'm being overwhelmed with work and now trying to schedule my classes for  next semester. This is too much for my soul. but thankfully this weekend I'l be going to D.C. for Howard University's Homecoming hopefully It will relieve all of this stress. Il be back next week with post about my experiences in D.C.

YA DIGG?

At only 15 years old this guy has already done most things most adults will never accomplish in their lives. Diggy Simmons  has grown up in the spotlight and has lived nothing short of a normal life. He was really first introduced to the world in the show, Run's House, which was a family show on MTV and, hip hop legend, Rev Run who was part of the historic rap group Run DMC. The show first aired when Diggy was only about 10 years old and lasted for a few years.
We have always known that Rev Run's oldest son, JoJo,was an aspiring rapper, but what shocked the world is when Diggy began rapping and releasing songs and mixtapes. at first I was a little skeptical about listening to this little kid trying to rap. I figured he was only doing it because of who his father was, but when I actually listened to him rap I was really surprised! this kid was actually rapping, not just talking while rhyming a few words with each other. most rappers at his age don't have the maturity to formulate great songs, but Diggy's wordplay and flow have set him apart from others. he raps luke he has been doing for as many years as some of the big names today. Even though he's young older people respect him for his attitude and honesty. I like him because he's not always rapping about how much money he has or how many girls he got, but because talks about his feelings and what goes on in his life, which isn't seen in many young artists.
Right after his 15 birthday, Diggy signed with Atlantic Records and has begun his new life as a signed artists. He has already released two mixtapes, been on T.V. shows such as 106 and Park, and has had many interviews. Diggy Simmons could possibly be the new future face of Hip Hop. Check out his Blog!http://digslifeofthejetsetter.blogspot.com/ and to see his performance in the cypher at the BET Hip Hop Awards http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KlID5T2ShS8

OH SNAP!!!!

The old saying of history repeating its self has come true in the last year with the return of the snapback hat. They have grown more and more popular in the year 2010 and are in high demand for people nowadays. People aren't just looking for any snapback hat, people are searching for vintage, original hats from back in the 80's when they were first mad popular. more and more online sites are adding snapback hats to their lists of merchandise. It is very hard to get a snapback from a store in your city or town so most of the rare hats have to be ordered online. The prices usually range from $30 to over $100 depending on popularity of the team represented on the hat.
Snapbacks became very popular in the late 70's and 80's and some of the 90's. Different rappers showcased their hats in different videos interviews etc.. and the rest of the population caught the craze. this was also part of the starter jackets era. People could represent their favorite teams by wearing a starter jacket with the matching starter hat. they were made famous by celebrities such as Will Smith and the rap group N.W.A.

Snapbacks have certainly made their return and I don't think they are going away anytime soon. I suggest people invest in some, fitted hats are slowly but surely dying and snapbacks are taking over. New artists of our era have brought them back into style. More and More younger celebrities are starting to be part of the trend.

D-TOWWWWN

Big Sean is a rapper who has been underrated and mostly unknown for the past few years. though he has been signed since 2005, he never really got his recognition until early this year when he was inducted into the XXL magazine's freshman class of '10.  The special showcases the 10  most popular and new rappers of the year who have made an impact in hip hop. I never really used to listen to him until i saw him on the cover of the magazine and I was curious to see what was so great about him.
Big Sean's real name is Sean Michael Leonard Anderson and he was born in Santa Monica, California in 1988, but he moved to Detroit, Michigan at 2 months of age. In 2005, Sean signed with Kanye West's record label, GOOD Music, after he heard Sean freestyle at a radio station interview. in 2008 Sean signed to Island Def Jam Records and has blown up since then.

I'm excited to see where Big Sean takes his career. He is a very talented artists and his success can only grow from here. With mixtapes, features, and being sponsored by fellow artist/designer Taz Arnold, he is bound to make some noise in the music industry in the near future.  Hopefully his Finally Famous album, which releases this fall, does well and takes Big Sean to the next level.

TI$A

Taz Arnold is definitely stirring up trouble in the fashion world with his off the wall style and his vintage  couture clothing line. What he is doing isn't new but it s certainly innovative. Taz's clothing brand TI$A focuses on reviving the past styles of generations before ours. Certain trends such as starter jackets, and snapback hats have slowly made their way back to top of the list of fashionable wear. Thanks to people like Taz a lot of the older styles that we were too young to understand have come back in style and us young people have a chance to experience what the past had to offer. I guess the saying about how trends are never new they are only recycled through generations is true.
My favorite items from Ti$a's collection are the snapback hats. they are perhaps the most popular of the the line and they are shown off by different artists such as Chris Brown, Tyga, Diggy Simmons, and Big Sean. The snapback era came into fashion around the time Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were in New World Order. They slowly began to fade in to the back-burner as new fitted hats began to hit the streets.  With the help of new young artists, snapbacks have swiftly made there were back into the for front of popular fashion. They are here to stay for a while.
I personally love wearing the TI$A brand. I snapbacks fit to any size head and they fit well. i never used to wear many fitted hats cause My head never fit any of the sizes....not saying my head was big but the closest size to my actual size was 7 3/8 which still didn't fit right.  TI$A brings back old fashion from decades ago and sales the designer labels on is website such as Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Fendi, and Yves Saint Laurent. the prices for Taz's collection is not cheap but is not too expensive for the average person. I highly recommend giving it a look for yourself to determine whether or not you ant to buy the apparel. Heres the Link http://www.shop.tisavision.tv/ and heres the link to the vintage shop, http://shopvintage.tisavision.tv/ and finally here's a video of what the TI$A brand is all about. http://www.vimeo.com/14046725 .

Its The Wiz!!!!!!

As my first official post, I decided to profile one of my favorite rappers Mr. Wiz Khalifa. He is no doubt one of the most popular artists out right now with all his mixtapes and features on songs. Mr. Wiz sets himself apart from other rappers by his unique style and flow. When most people think of Wiz Khalifa they think of "that guy with all the tattoos." only a few rappers in the game have attempted to tattoo their whole body which has been a recent trend. just to name a few, artists such as lil wayne, Tyga, Soulja Boy, Birdman, and Waka Flaka flame has become "tatted up" over the recent years. In case some of you don't know who he is or have never heard his music I'l give you some background information on him.
Wiz was born Cameron Jibril Thomaz on September 8, 1987, which makes him 23 years old which is young to be as popular as he is today. He moved around all over the world because of his father being in the army so he lived in Germany, England, and Japan before finally moving to Pittsburgh, Pensylvania. wiz Khalifa's name derives from the arabic term "successor" and wisdom which was shortened to "wiz".
Wiz may seem like a new artists to the game, but his first mixtape released in 2005 titled Prince of the City: Welcome to Pistolvania.  Little do people know that Wiz was actually signed to Warner Bros Records in 2007 and released his first single titled Say Yeah. He recently just parted ways with the label after numerous delays of releasing his album in 2009. He became an Independent Artist and started to release more and more mixtapes which finally started being recognized by the public. Just recently Wiz has signed a deal with Atlantic Records and he shows a promising future. Wiz Inspires other who have dreams of making it to follow their dreams and to be yourself and not try to be like others and you may make it one day. I encourage you all to follow his career and listen to some of his music. He may be here for a long while.

First Name Malcolm , Last Name Perry

Hello world! My name is Malcolm Perry, Im all of 18 years old, and I am sitting in class right now creating this blog and writing my first post! I'm from Atlanta, Georgia, born and raised, but now I live in Saratoga Springs, New York attending Skidmore College. Being raised in "Hot Atlanta" I grew up around fashion and music so I naturally fell in love with them both. My mother and father were very involved in the fashion industry and my mother is still involved in the industry today.
I'm aspiring to become a designer and create my own shoes and apparel and to operate my own retail store someday along with becoming a successful songwriter. I started writing poetry and music when I was younger because I would get bored with playing video games and playing sports. Growing up, I had a great imagination, I could create full length stories in my mind and I realized that if I wanted to, I could write for hours about a story I created and not even notice the time past. One day I decided to write what I was thinking into songs and poetry and I have been doing that ever since. Since I love fashion and music, I feel it is necessary that this blog be about some of the fashion styles and designers that are popular now and some of the musicians and artists that inspire me and have made it in the music industry. ENJOY  PEOPLE!
